Martin Berauer

Inspired by different ethnic music genres I incorporate techniques, sounds and colors from diverse musical cultures in my playing. Music has been central to my life from an early age on. An encounter with the bassist Gerald Veasley has made my urge of becoming professional musician grow. While studying Jazz and improvised music at the Anton Bruckner University with Helmut Schönleitner in Austria I also discovered Indian music with Pandit Suresh Talwalker and Shama Bhate. My love for the powerful sounds of “world music” made me move to Paris. There I studied at the renowned “Centre des musiques de Didier Lockwood” and started to delve extensively into African and North African Music. This has strongly influenced my musical personality and shaped my vision of bass playing. Since 2006 my musical journey has been blessed with numerous enriching collaborations that gave me the chance to perform all over the world and share my experience in Masterclasses and Workshops in France, India, Africa and the Caribbean.
