Monthly workshops for adults organised by Derby Jazz and held at University of Derby, Markeaton Street. Led by Matt Ratcliffe and Andrew Wood the workshops are aimed at musicians who have some facility with their instrument and basic music reading skills.
Musicians with little or no experience of small group jazz or improvising are very welcome. Each workshop focuses on one or two pieces and a week or two before the workshop Matt circulates charts and YouTube links of those pieces so participants can do a little "homework" before coming together to play and share ideas. Working in small groups participants will explore ways of using melodic, rhythmic, chordal, modal and textural improvisation in small band settings.
Participants will also explore learning and playing music by ear as well as how to express themselves by developing arrangements and improvisations. All instruments are welcome. Workshops cost £10 per session. Registration forms are available on request from firstname.lastname@example.org.
PLEASE BOOK IN ADVANCE THROUGH OUR ONLINE BOX OFFICE. YOU CAN JUST TURN UP ON THE NIGHT BUT IT HELPS US TO KNOW IN ADVANCE HOW MANY ROOMS AND WORKSHOP LEADERS WE WILL NEED.
This workshop is led by Matt Ratcliffe.
